Senegal defeated Morocco 1-0 after extra time to claim the Africa Cup of Nations title in the final. In stoppage time of regular play, Brahim Díaz won a controversial penalty which sparked a dispute, leading Senegal to stage a walkout and leave the pitch temporarily. After the team returned to the game, Díaz took the Panenka penalty only for it to be saved.

Multiple on-site journalists revealed: "Every journalist in the press box was asking each other: Did Díaz deliberately miss the penalty? Could this even be the reason why Senegal agreed to resume the match?"
